Launching Your Campaign
Treat your job search as a job
Fast-track your job search by devoting as much time and energy as possible to sending
out resumes and through proactive networking. If you are not currently employed then
treat your job search as your full time job, or if you are working however want/need to
make a move, you should be dedicating as much time as possible to your campaign.
Marketing your competencies
Job search is marketing, with the product you are selling - yourself! Liken your job
search to a marketing campaign, promoting your skills and competencies with
professional marketing material, namely your resume, cover letters, selection criteria,
broadcast letters or other job search communication material. Exploit every marketing
channel; including advertisements, targeted direct mail, internet, or networking, just as
you would with any other product. Promote and sell yourself into your next role.
Remember to retain life/work balance
Avoid becoming consumed with your job search activity: your life is more than just your
job. Step back, breathe deeply, and remember to keep everything in perspective. A
healthy, well balanced mindset is paramount to a successful job search.
Don't limit your search to only larger companies
While it may seem that there would be greater opportunities with larger and more
influential companies, much of the hiring action is with small and mid-size organisations.
Ensure your search campaign is broad based and markets your skills to small, medium,
and large-scale corporations. Don't limit yourself.
