Launching Your Campaign - con't
Maintain your motivation and drive
Motivation and drive are crucial to your job search and can be difficult to maintain if you
have not had much success. As with any task that you approach, your commitment,
energy and enthusiasm is what will sustain you during the difficult times. While working
hard on your job search, remember to work hard on yourself and your personal life.
Gather family support
Family support is important to your job search so it is important to include them during
this process. Keep them informed of arising opportunities and share interesting
interviews/information with them. You will need all the strength and support your can
family offer and they need to feel involved and important as well. Avoid letting your job
search overwhelm your life; you are much more than your career to your family.
Don't beat yourself up
Your qualifications and experience are a perfect match for the position, however you
were unsuccessful in securing the role - don't fret about it. Let it go. Don't beat yourself
up about it, nor allow this situation/set back to block you from moving forward.
Develop a job search contact portfolio
Either electronic or handwritten, a job search contact file where you keep a track of
everything is important. Get organised! Job search is a job and an important part of this
role is the recordkeeping. Disorganisation leads to inefficiency and inefficiency can lead
to disappointment.
Expand your volume and reply rate
There is a direct correlation between the number of job search contacts you initiate with
your reply rates (i.e. interviews and offers) so the successful job seeker realises that to
enhance their interviews and offers, they have to follow an aggressive and expansive
campaign. Send out as many resumes as you can (to your targeted role); attend as
many networking opportunities as possible; and get your network of contacts working for
you.
Avoid fear
If you've lost you job (and you were earning the only income in your family); you have
high mortgage repayments; and your credit card bill is charged to the max - try not to
panic as this will be detrimental in your job search. Concentrate on developing an
effective job search campaign; gather your resources; leverage your network; and get
the word out! [Review other material provided on this CD relating to job loss. Advanced
