Job Search Campaign

Overview

When looking back on previous job search practices, in order to secure a new role, all you had to do was jot down your work history on a 'quick and nasty' one page resume; or, ring the employer to express your interest and just show up at the interview, where you had the opportunity to relay your experience and qualifications directly to the interviewer. With today's competitive market, those days no longer exist.

Today's game plan is much more difficult, with the job searching process becoming" increasingly more complex and competitive, requiring a strategy, an aggressive action" plan and an undying commitment to see it through - even if the candidate is still" employed.

Job searchers from yester-year remember when a job search relied almost entirely on" newspaper advertisements, with ads being virtually the only source for locating new" opportunities (besides networking). Fast-forward to today's market and you will realise" that a job seeker's options have become virtually unlimited, with vast options, resources" and techniques available for the savvy job hunter to harness within their job search" campaign. However, with numerous choices often comes confusion.
Should you:

  • Use the Internet to uncover opportunities? [How successful is this method?]
  • Post your resume on job boards? [How secure is this option?]
  • Produce a broadcast fax campaign to recruiters? [How targeted will this be?]
  • Consider a targeted direct mail campaign to recruiters? [Is this successful?]
  • Engage the services of an outplacement company or career coach?

These are but a few questions that many of my clients (from graduate through to senior executives) have pondered over, so in the following pages I have presented a number of strategies and options for you to consider when you begin your job search campaign. There is no magic potion or solution, but rather tried and tested methods that others have found beneficial in their job search. You too, may find them helpful.
