Winning Interview Tactics

Aim for success
Even if you have impressive qualifications and expansive experience to offer a potential employer, the interview can still be stressful. Whether faced with a one-on-one, panel or group scenario, when questioned about your qualifications you will need to demonstrate your value with an impressive interview performance. It is imperative that you are well prepared and able to articulate your responses in a succinct and professional manner as they relate to the organisation's specific goals and requirements. Practice your techniques; practice again; and then practice some more.

A two-way street
It is common for a job seeker to forget that an interview has a dual purpose: (1) to allow the interviewer to get to know you, and (2) to allow you to get to know not only the interviewer but also the organisation. While the organisation is deciding whether or not to offer you a place on their team, it is just as important for you to decide whether or not you would like to work for the company. Ask questions regarding the company's products, personnel, long-range plans and objectives and anything else that will allow you expand your understanding of the company's values and culture and future prospects. Make sure the company is right for you before you accept any offers to avoid disappointment down the track when you have to kick-start your campaign again due to job disappointment.

Incorporate achievements to deliver impact
Back up your responses with real examples and results that you contributed to the workplace. A broad statement is not as powerful as a statement that is quantified with a real life situation or scenario to demonstrate a skill or competency in action. By describing the situation to an interviewer will allow them to see your expertise in action.
